The altar is where we bring the work before God before we carry it into the marketplace. Each week, we return to Scripture for a word to govern our decisions, shape our leadership, and consecrate the work of our hands.

BEFORE GOD BUILDS THE WORK, HE BUILDS THE WORKER
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.”
PSALMS 127:1 (NIV)
We often bring God the business we want Him to grow. But sometimes His first answer is not expansion—it is formation.
Before God enlarges what is in our hands, He may confront what is in our hearts. He teaches us dependence before influence, stewardship before increase, and obedience before visibility.
This week, do not only ask God, “What should I do with the business?” Ask Him, “What are You forming in me through this business?”
The work is not separate from the formation. God is building the builder too.
When the worker is consecrated, the work begins to change.
At the Altar
Bring the work before God.
Father, before I ask You to build what is in my hands, I surrender the one carrying it.
Search my heart. Correct what must be corrected. Form in me the character required for what You have entrusted to me.
Teach me to depend on You before I seek increase, to obey You before I seek visibility, and to steward faithfully before I ask for more.
I bring You my plans, decisions, pressures, ambitions, finances, relationships, and the work of my hands. Let nothing I build take the place that belongs to You.
Build me as You build the work.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Take It into the Work
One act of obedience this week
Before making one significant business decision this week, take it to prayer first.
Ask:
“Lord, what are You forming in me through this decision?”
Do not rush to solve what God may be using to form you. Listen. Write down what you sense. Then take the next faithful step.
Business becomes worship when Christ becomes Lord of our work.
This Week’s Marketplace Intercession
TUESDAY • 22 SEPTEMBER 2026
FOR THE BUSINESS OWNER & STEWARD
Father, today we bring before You every person carrying the responsibility of a business, organisation, assignment or livelihood.
Give them wisdom where decisions are unclear, courage where pressure is great, and integrity where compromise appears easier.
Strengthen those carrying financial burdens, responsibility for employees, difficult negotiations, delayed payments, uncertain markets and decisions that affect families beyond their own.
Guard their hearts from fear, pride, exhaustion and the pressure to build without You.
Provide what is needed.
Correct what must change.
Open what should open and close what should not continue.
May every Christian business owner remember that the business belongs first to You.
Teach us to steward people, resources, opportunities and influence in a manner worthy of Christ.
Establish the work of our hands, and let our businesses become places through which Your character, provision and Kingdom are made visible.
