Introduction: Why Consecrated Business Ministry Exists

Consecrated Business Ministry (CBM) is a Christian marketplace ministry established to bring business owners, entrepreneurs, leaders and their work under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

We believe that business is not separate from a believer's relationship with God. The marketplace is one of the places where faith is lived, obedience is demonstrated, character is tested, stewardship is exercised, and God's purposes can find expression through the work of human hands.

Yet many business owners carry the responsibilities of building, leading, employing, providing and sustaining their businesses without sufficient spiritual formation, biblical guidance or a community that understands the weight of their assignment.

Some are beginning their entrepreneurial journeys. Others are navigating growth, financial pressure, difficult decisions, family responsibilities, leadership challenges, disappointment or the consequences of previous decisions. Others have built successful businesses but are beginning to ask deeper questions about purpose, legacy and their relationship with God.

Consecrated Business Ministry exists to meet business owners within these realities and help them bring their lives, leadership and businesses into conscious alignment with God.

Our work begins with the conviction that God is not merely someone we approach when business becomes difficult. He is Lord over the business itself.

1. What Does Consecrated Mean?

To consecrate is to set apart for God.

In the context of business, consecration is the deliberate surrender of ownership, authority, decisions, resources, relationships, ambitions and outcomes to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

It is an acknowledgement that although a business may be legally registered in a person's name, its founder remains accountable to God for how it is established, governed and operated.

Consecration therefore goes beyond praying for business success. It asks whether the business itself, its practices, its leadership and its purpose are aligned with the One whose blessing we seek.

A consecrated business is not necessarily a business that sells Christian products, uses biblical language in its marketing or displays Scripture on its walls.

It is a business whose owner is learning to submit its governance, decisions, conduct and stewardship to God.

This submission must find practical expression in integrity, financial responsibility, treatment of employees, relationships with customers, fulfilment of obligations, ethical decision-making and care for the people affected by the business.

Consecration is not merely a declaration made at the beginning of a business journey. It is an ongoing commitment that must be lived as the business develops and circumstances change.

2. Why Business Is a Matter of Ministry

Business affects more than the person who owns it.

A single business can influence the livelihood of employees, the wellbeing of families, the opportunities available to young people, the development of communities and the inheritance passed to future generations.

The decisions made by a business owner can therefore carry consequences far beyond the boardroom.

For this reason, CBM approaches business ownership as a responsibility requiring both practical wisdom and spiritual maturity.

We do not regard business owners simply as people seeking profit. We recognise them as individuals carrying responsibilities, relationships, vulnerabilities, aspirations and assignments that require faithful stewardship.

The ministry is concerned with the person behind the business as much as the business itself.

A business may be growing while its founder is exhausted. It may be profitable while its leadership relationships are deteriorating. It may be expanding while its owner is becoming increasingly disconnected from God.

CBM seeks to address these realities through biblical formation, prayer, practical guidance and responsible accompaniment.

Our concern is not merely whether a business survives or grows, but also what kind of person is being formed through the process of building it.

3. God Is Boss: Our Governing Conviction

God Is Boss is the governing conviction of Consecrated Business Ministry.

It expresses our belief that Jesus Christ holds ultimate authority over the life and work of the believer.

For a business owner, this conviction changes the fundamental question from:

"What do I want to achieve through my business?"

to:

"Lord, what have You entrusted to me, and how do You require me to steward it?"

This does not remove the founder's responsibility to plan, lead, make decisions, manage resources or exercise professional judgement.

Rather, it places those responsibilities under divine authority.

A business owner who acknowledges God as Boss remains responsible for competent management, lawful conduct, financial discipline, ethical leadership and the fulfilment of commitments.

Prayer does not replace responsible action. Faith does not excuse negligence. Spiritual language does not justify dishonesty or poor stewardship.

God Is Boss must become visible in how the business is actually governed.

4. The Altar and the Marketplace

At CBM, the altar represents the place of surrender, prayer, worship, consecration and renewed alignment with God.

The marketplace represents the environment in which the believer must live out what has been received before God.

We do not believe that these two environments should be disconnected.

The business owner who prays at the altar must return to the marketplace prepared to practise integrity, exercise wisdom, honour commitments and lead responsibly.

The purpose of gathering at the altar is therefore not to escape the responsibilities of business but to become spiritually equipped to fulfil them.

We bring our work before God so that our work may be governed by Him.

We return to the marketplace to practise what we have received.

In this way, prayer and practical stewardship become part of one continuous life of obedience.

5. Our Approach to Business Owners

Consecrated Business Ministry does not exist to accumulate members or create permanent dependence upon the ministry.

We exist to serve people and businesses according to their actual needs.

Some business owners may require a single conversation, prayer or resource that helps them gain clarity and continue their journey.

Others may need a period of structured biblical formation, guidance, encouragement or practical support.

Some may be facing more serious challenges requiring sustained accompaniment and appropriate professional assistance.

Our responsibility is to discern the nature of the need, respond within the ministry's competence and help the individual move towards greater spiritual maturity, practical responsibility and independence.

We do not seek to make ourselves indispensable.

We seek to help business owners become increasingly capable of walking faithfully with God in the responsibilities entrusted to them.

The measure of our work is not how long someone remains connected to CBM, but whether that person is being equipped to live and lead under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

6. Formation Before Expansion

Business growth is important, but growth without formation can magnify existing weaknesses.

An increase in revenue does not automatically produce integrity. A larger team does not automatically produce mature leadership. Greater influence does not necessarily mean greater obedience to God.

CBM therefore places significant emphasis on the formation of the person carrying the business.

We encourage business owners to examine their motives, habits, leadership practices, relationships, financial decisions and understanding of stewardship.

We believe that the inner life of a founder matters because it influences the decisions through which a business is built.

Formation is not a requirement that a person become perfect before beginning or growing a business. It is a commitment to remain teachable, accountable and responsive to God's correction throughout the journey.

7. From Deliverance to Dominion to Legacy

CBM understands the journey of formation through three connected dimensions:

Deliverance concerns the freedom necessary to move beyond patterns, burdens and practices that hinder faithful living and stewardship.

Dominion concerns the responsible exercise of authority, wisdom and stewardship within the assignments entrusted to us.

Legacy concerns what remains beyond the founder: the values, knowledge, opportunities, relationships, resources and spiritual inheritance passed to those who follow.

Deliverance is not the destination. It opens the way for a life of responsible stewardship.

Dominion is not permission to control or exploit others. It is the exercise of entrusted responsibility under God's authority.

Legacy is not merely the transfer of accumulated wealth. It includes the transmission of faith, wisdom, integrity and the capacity to steward what has been received.

Our desire is to see business owners build in ways that strengthen their families, serve their communities and prepare future generations to walk responsibly with God.

8. What This Means for Those Who Serve at CBM

Everyone who serves within Consecrated Business Ministry carries a responsibility to understand and preserve its mandate.

We are not here to build personal followings, create unnecessary dependence or measure ministry effectiveness solely through attendance, membership or the number of people participating in our activities.

We are entrusted with people, their work and the responsibilities they carry.

This requires humility, confidentiality, integrity, prayerfulness, sound judgement and respect for the dignity and agency of every person who approaches the ministry.

We must not promise what we cannot deliver, claim authority beyond our responsibilities or confuse spiritual care with professional services for which we are not qualified.

Our work is to receive people responsibly, understand their needs, serve them faithfully and help them continue their journey with greater clarity, maturity and confidence in God.

We must remain consecrated to the very principles we teach.

9. Our Invitation to the Business Owner

If you are building a business, leading an organisation, rebuilding after disappointment or carrying a responsibility that feels greater than your present capacity, you are welcome to bring your work before God.

You do not need to have everything figured out before approaching the altar.

You may come with questions, decisions, burdens, thanksgiving, uncertainty or a desire to surrender your business more fully to Jesus Christ.

Our invitation is not simply to join a ministry.

It is to begin or deepen a life in which God is acknowledged as Lord over your work.

Come to the altar.

Bring the work.

Receive what is needed.

Return to the marketplace prepared to steward faithfully what God has entrusted to you.

Consecrated Business Ministry exists because we believe that God is concerned with the lives of business owners and the work entrusted to their hands.

We believe that business can become an expression of faithful stewardship, that founders can be formed through their assignments, and that the fruit of consecrated work can extend beyond one individual and one generation.

We serve so that business owners may grow in their relationship with God, become responsible stewards of their assignments and build what can be entrusted to those who follow.
