Before You Ask God to Bless the Business, Consecrate It

Many Christian entrepreneurs ask God to bless their businesses.

We pray for customers, provision, contracts, growth, favour, protection and open doors. We ask God to establish the work of our hands and cause what we build to prosper.

But before we ask God to bless the business, there is a deeper question:

Have we given the business to Him?

Consecration comes before blessing.

A business can carry a Christian owner's name and still be governed entirely by human ambition. We can pray over our plans while remaining unwilling to surrender those plans. We can ask God to prosper something without first asking whether what we are building, how we are building it, and why we are building it belong to Him.

Consecration changes that posture.

It says:

God, this business is Yours.

What Does It Mean to Consecrate a Business?

To consecrate something is to set it apart for God and His purposes.

Business consecration therefore goes deeper than asking God to help the business succeed. It is the deliberate surrender of the business—its ownership, purpose, strategy, finances, relationships, operations, influence and future—to the authority of God.

It is acknowledging that we are stewards before we are owners.

Scripture gives us this posture:

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” — Proverbs 16:3

Consecration means we are willing not only to ask God to establish our plans, but also to allow Him to correct them, redirect them or even dismantle what does not belong in the assignment.

We surrender ownership.

We align our decisions with His Word.

We renounce practices and agreements that contradict His ways.

We invite His presence and government into the work.

And we commit the fruit of the business to purposes that honour Him.

A Prayer of Business Consecration

Heavenly Father,

I come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and acknowledge You as Lord over my life and over the work of my hands.

Today, I deliberately consecrate this business to You.

I acknowledge that everything I have comes from You. The ideas, opportunities, resources, relationships, abilities and influence entrusted to me ultimately belong to You.

Therefore, I surrender this business to Your ownership and authority.

I surrender its vision.

I surrender its strategy.

I surrender its finances.

I surrender its products and services.

I surrender its employees, customers, suppliers, partners and relationships.

I surrender its systems, operations, assets, intellectual property and resources.

I surrender its reputation, growth, opportunities and future.

Father, search this business and expose anything that is not aligned with You.

Where I have built from fear, pride, desperation, competition, greed, self-preservation or human ambition, correct me.

Where I have entered agreements, practices, relationships or decisions that do not honour You, give me the courage and wisdom to make them right.

I renounce every ungodly agreement, influence and practice connected to this business.

I refuse to build upon foundations that oppose Your Word.

Let the blood of Jesus speak over this business, its people, its resources and everything entrusted to it.

Purify my motives.

Purify my leadership.

Purify my decisions.

Purify the way money enters and leaves this business.

Purify the relationships through which this business operates.

Let integrity govern our dealings.

Let wisdom govern our decisions.

Let righteousness govern our systems.

Let love govern how we treat people.

Let excellence characterize the work of our hands.

Holy Spirit, take Your rightful place in this business.

Lead me when I make decisions.

Correct me when I move outside Your will.

Give me discernment concerning opportunities, partnerships, contracts and relationships.

Close doors that would take this business outside its assignment, even when those doors appear profitable.

Open the doors that belong to the purpose for which You have entrusted this business to me.

Father, I do not merely ask You to bless what I have decided to build.

Teach me to build what You can bless.

Let this business become an instrument of service, provision, justice, generosity, employment, transformation and Kingdom impact.

May the people touched by this business encounter the fruit of Your government through the way we work, lead, serve and steward.

I receive my responsibility as a steward.

You are the Owner.

You are the Source.

You are the Strategist.

You are the Sustainer.

And I submit myself and this business to Your authority.

From this day forward, may this business continually declare:

God Is Boss.

Declarations Over the Business

I declare that this business is consecrated to God and submitted to His authority.

I declare that God is the ultimate Owner, and I am a steward of what He has entrusted to me.

I declare that every strategy, decision and opportunity will be tested against the Word, wisdom and direction of God.

I renounce every ungodly agreement, practice, influence and foundation that contradicts the purposes of God for this business.

I declare that the blood of Jesus speaks over this business, its people, resources, relationships and future.

I declare that integrity, righteousness, wisdom and excellence will govern the work of our hands.

I declare that we will not pursue profit at the expense of obedience.

I declare that we will not accept opportunities that require us to compromise what God has commanded.

I declare that God will give us discernment to recognise the right people, partnerships, opportunities and seasons.

I declare that provision will meet every assignment God has genuinely given this business.

I declare that this business will create value, serve people and become a channel through which others are strengthened.

I declare that every resource entrusted to this business will be stewarded faithfully.

I declare that our growth will not take us away from God but will increase our responsibility before Him.

I declare that this business will not become an idol to its founder, its leaders or its family.

I declare that success will never replace surrender.

I declare that the generations that come after us will inherit more than assets; they will inherit the knowledge that God is the Source and God is Boss.

I declare that this business will fulfil the purpose for which God permitted it to exist.

And I declare:

This business belongs to God.
We are His stewards.
God directs.
We obey.
God provides the assignment.
We faithfully build.

In Jesus’ name,

Consecrate Before You Ask for Increase

Consecration is not something we do once and then leave behind.

As the business grows, new decisions will come. New opportunities will appear. New relationships will form. More money may pass through our hands, and greater influence may be entrusted to us.

At every stage, we return to the altar.

Before expansion: consecrate it.

Before the partnership: consecrate it.

Before the contract: consecrate it.

Before the investment: consecrate it.

Before asking God to bless the next level, surrender the next level.

Because the ultimate testimony of a Kingdom business is not simply:

“God blessed my business.”

It is:

“This business belongs to God.”
